I was given a Gamo Swarm Fusion 10X Gen 2 in 22 caliber. I examined the bore with my bore scope and found the rifling to be very strange. The rifling starts exactly at the breech with no provision to seat the pellet (In conventional terms no chamber space at all). The rifling does not extend to the end of the metal barrel but ends about 5/8" short of the end of the metal barrel. The rifling does not end in a precise or uniform manner. See the attached pictures. Notice that there is no rifling at the termination of the metal barrel at the point the red muzzle device is mounted.
Now I am completely new to the world of air rifles and do not know what to make of this. I expected a small relief at the breech to allow easy seating of the pellet and I expected the rifling to extend to the end of the metal barrel. Is this barrel typical of air gun rifles? For the life of me it appears the barrel is mounted 180 degrees out. Is this even something that anyone here has heard of?
