I've had a couple of 44magnum Marlin 1894 lever actions and the both shot the 240gr Hornady bullets extremely well but shot Speer 240gr SP and HP even better! I only had one in my hands once when I could take a deer with it though. It was loaded with the Speer SP bullets and they put the deer down instantly!
I also used the Hornadys with a sabot in a muzzleloader that duplicated the Marlin 44 loads. It shot approximately 1700fps from either one and I killed a good many deer with the smokepole. Never recovered a bullet. Now I have a a Marlin 1894 in 41mag that needs to get blooded...
