I am a huge fan of the 17HM2. I got tired of the results of squirrel meat damage with a scatter gun (the only firearm I owned at the time that was legal to hunt small game in PA) and started searching for a rimfire bolt gun. The 452 American in 17HM2 was the answer. Many years later, I own three 452s in 17HM2: a standard American, a varmint, and a maple American. They all shoot extremely well with standard Hornady 17gr VMax. The HM2 is readily available at the majority of shops around here, so I would have no concerns in continuing to buy rifles chambered in it! (I’d love to find a Cooper..) I don’t think people understand the great cartridge that it is! I’ll second the comment of taking fox squirrel beyond 100 yards. Shots near or far, it is my go to squirrel cartridge.
