Mankind is going to keep digging until he extinguishes himself. We now know how to produce tremendous explosives by exploiting the power of the atom and if we could do it in the 1940s I don't see how it couldn't be done by any country, even Haiti if they wanted to. Heck, North Korea is one of the most backward countries on earth and they have the bomb. Now we are learning how to make a benign virus jump to the human species after altering it to make slightly deadly and certainly very contagious with the ability to mutate.
