I am thinking of buying/building a new hunting rifle- probably next year. I want a bolt action preferably with a 22 inch barrel and weighing 8lbs or less with scope and fully loaded.I am looking a caliber that will handle 180-220 grain ammo and I will limit my shot to 400 yards on game-elk and/or moose..

I am thinking of perhaps a 338-06 or a 338 RCM. I had a Kimber 338 WM but the length of pull was a bit long for me and the barrel was a bit long as well. I could not bring myself to cut the rifle though so I sold it.

I don't want a muzzle break and the 338 Wm was about as much recoil as I want-less would be better. I don't currently reload but I have the equipment to do so if it helps.

Looking for suggestions.

Thanks!
