I always use the look thru the bore method. Sighted in a 788 rem my in 7-08 this week in 3 shots after bore sighting it. Some of my friends have been amazed at how close I can usaully get them. Lots of practice. I like a 3” dot at 50 yards and adjust as close as I can. Then I go to the edge of the target. Use the edge to split the bore right down the middle and adjust again. Then split the height the same way. You can get It really close.
