I'm wondering if he is trying to make a fine distinction. In saying that he did not pull the trigger is he setting the stage to claim that in the process of cocking the revolver (assuming a single action) there was a mechanical issue with the pistol and the hammer did not cocked, or alternatively, the hammer slipped out of his control.
Then he should have filmed his western using Glocks instead of old technology.
