Back in mid-70's we were teaching Pt Hope kids to make knives in shop during whaling season. Among other projects, they could leave off, then pick up again, as many of them would go out to the camps for a few days every week. Or all week. As long as we had even one kid in school, we could count it..... smile

One day a reporter from NY walked in and about had a heart attack.

His words, possibly slightly paraphrased were, " Holy Crap! In NY we are paying kids to turn in their knives, and here you are teaching them to make them?"

Different cultures, if I may use that term loosely in reguard to NY city folks.

Yeah , I get the liability aspect, but knife handling is something that needs to be taught, just like anything else. I'm pretty sure that was covered in the parental permissions.
