I recently acquired a Mauser 98 in commercial configuration. The caliber is 8x57 with commercial sights. It is very light weight at under 6 pounds. There are no maker marks on the action. In fact the only markings are the caliber, serial number and a small German eagle stamped on the right side just above the stock line near the front of the receiver ring. My question is what the eagle indicates. I am hoping some of you more knowledgeable on the subject might comment your thoughts. Here is a picture of the eagle stamping.
