Midland is probably the most decent place to live in the Permian Basin.
Odessa tends to be more "roughneck" types, while Midland is more "upper management" types.
The surrounding smallish towns around Midland/Odessa are a mixture of the above.
It's always been a boom or bust economy where oil is concerned. That's the oil business.
