Rory, you forgot the 99B, Style 2.

I have an EG (so stamped on the front of the frame), 24" barrel in .303. Serial # 3996XX (checkered). The barrel is a takedown barrel. Sqweeler has (or had) an identical rifle, serial # 3998XX.

UpThePole, if you remove the forearm and look at the bottom of the barrel and it is stamped "OFF" with a directional arrow, it is a left over 99B barrel. Otherwise it is a 99A barrel or special order as Rory said.

I'm in the using up left over barrels camp. During and immediately after WWII Savage probably used whatever they had to assemble salable rifles - catalog be damned.
