Consider that pattern density kills, not shot size.
Peter Hathaway Capstick may not have been THE consummate authority, but for sorting out wounded leopards, he claimed that #1 buckshot was (ahem!) the "cat's meow"!
And you also have an equal amount of well known PHs (Robin Hurt comes to mind) say buckshot will get you mauled or even killed against leopards (it happened to him).
First, let me say that I understand that Capstick was known for employing his "literary license" quite often in his writings. 😉
But I also understand that he was NOT a shrinking violet himself and quite a few of his stories are true.
That said.
Both my kids are LEO's. One Federal, one municipal.
Their departments demand 00 or slugs.
The old man? For a home defense weapon, MY shotgun will be stuffed with #1 buckshot.
At 15 feet, a load of #1 is pretty much a slug.
But that's just me!
