Mad okie: I have the same Rifle (Marlin 917-V but in 17 Mach2) and have NO problems with the scope eyebox - I got this scope cheap in a trade deal.
The scope on my Marlin is a Vortex Crossfire II 3x9 variable.
Maybe a different scope will solve your "head forcing" situation?
