I've got family in both of those areas. Back when I was growing up, those areas had no deer but tons of pheasants now they have almost no pheasants but big deer. I wish they could have both!
My mom's family bought a couple thousand acres of XIT land and settled a little ways NW of Muleshoe in something like 1918.
