The old one was a waste of oxygen and took direction from the wrong advisors. Poilievre is smart and talks a good economic conservatism. We'll see if he keeps it up. The Canadian MSM is already gearing up to give him a rough ride; especially the CBC which he has threatened to defund. For now, most news outlets are simply ignoring his selection and concentrating on the Queen's passing instead.
There are a lot of barriers to change and the governmental labyrinth is difficult for any to negotiate but Poilievre is an experienced politician as well as an intelligent man so he has a shot. He also has no apparent respect for Trudeau and his politics and I look forward to their interaction. As with any fiscal conservative, he will have trouble getting people to turn away from the Liberal promise of free stuff now, in exchange for a better future. Of course, there are plenty of avowed conservatives who will be wanting their free stuff too! GD
