Not a big deal, just do it, play around with it and see how it Suits you. How far do you plan on shooting? 300 BO sub's seem to start dropping significantly after about 125 yards.

That said its always a personal thing.

Dusky or dark woods I prefer illumination. I feel it also depends on the reticle, I've had some illuminated reticles that I too really didn't care for.
