I have one of those with the wood fore-end that I received as my 10th birthday present, it came with the peep-sight and also had a Mossberg scope on it.

I recently read that the wood fore-end was only on the first year production (1949). Apparently there were issues with the wood fore-end splitting when folks would let it slap against the end of the barrel so they went to the plastic fore-end. I think that the T-handle bolt knob was only used for a short time also.

I shot a truckload of gophers with mine through the years and never had an issue of any sort with it. Mine now resides with my son and will hopefully eventually go to my grandson.

You made a good buy on that one, I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

Magazines are available from Haviland Sales.
