Your Remington comes with a laminated stock, n’est-ce pas? They are a good deal heavier than walnut.

Just to be clear, it is an Interarms Mark X, with a replacement Remington 798 walnut stock ordered from Stocky's (according to the previous owner!) The stock is definitely walnut. However, also according to the previous owner: "3 rnds worth of #1 buckshot were used to fill in the inletted mortise for the front recoil lug (not present on this Mark X action). So, that sounds to me like a 1/4 pound extra, give or take. Still doesn't explain why it weighs quite so much. Perhaps a little weight added elsewhere? It's pleasant to shoot, anyways. laugh
