I’d check the S/N again as Winchester didn’t introduce the 32 Special until Oct. 1901.

Winchester Sporting Rear sights and Winchester Semi-Buckhorn Rear sights w/serrations on the semi-buckhorns were primarily used on Sporting Rifles of that era.
