I need some help locating an article/short story that appeared in a sporting publication some years prior. I've struck out on the internet, so I figured I'd ask people who write for such publications...

This story appeared on the back page of the magazine. It was about an aging elk hunter who returned to a spot overlooking a meadow that he and his hunting partner frequented. His partner had died some time prior, and this aging hunter was afflicted with 'that ball player's disease'. He had his Bible with him and read as he watched the meadow. He missed a shot at an elk and blamed the disease. After a bit, he lay down and the article said something like, "at first the snowflakes melted on his cheek, then no more".

It was a beautifully written story and the author choose the words in a way that made me want to read them again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
