If you want an Italian 45-70 I would recommend that you check out the Pedersoli 1886 Hunter Light. It’s more traditional in styling than the Chiappa but it is a good deal lighter. It is also drilled and tapped for the receiver sight allowing you to run a Williams or a Lyman.

I’ve got one and is my favorite rifle right now. I like the pistol grip stock as that the stock design does a lot to mitigate recoil. For instance felt recoil is much better on the lighter Pedersoli with the pistol grip than it is on my heavier Marlin with the straight grip stock. I’m going to get one of those Turnbull mounts and use a Burris Fastfire or something like that. It’s really accurate and fun to shoot and carry.
