No, not really.

If you think that, then you haven't been exposed to many 1911's, especially older, non-throated barrel ones, or to various shaped wad cutters & hollow point bullet designs.

Most newer pistols are definitely more forgiving & have nicely throated barrels, & most magazines are also better but all combinations of barrels, bullets & mags are not necessarily equal.

The newest Kimber mags, for example, that I have are maybe 5 year old vintage, & the oldest are maybe 10 years old vintage & both have different followers. I've shot both versions enough to know that neither works all the time. Ditto for numerous other brands.

With really good mags like Tripp, Wilson & McCormick, available, there is little reason to fool with others that are "just as good", but really aren't if you shoot them enough.
