For rifle rounds I use the ammo boxes that have the actual hinges not the molded in hinge that eventually breaks. I forget the brand at the moment but they're bomb proof.

For bulk pistol the Walmarts sells a HyperTough plastic "utility box" that works very well for bulk ammo. Smaller than a normal ammo can so it's not too heavy fully loaded up, but still holds a metric ass load of ammo. Stackable. Listed on their website right now for $6.88 each. I like to keep my shelves organized and these boxes are EASY to grab and toss in the truck.

My 556 stuff and loaded mags are all packed in metal ammo cans.
