I bought this rifle about 10 years ago to take it to africa for a buffalo hunt. I was very dissappointed with the crappy factory sights and called Ruger to ask for alternatives. They referred me to a gunsmith someplace in the midwest. I sent him the rifle and he installed the sights, a better butt pad and worked the trigger. For the life of me, I can not remember his name, I do remember that the job cost me as much as the rifle. Not complaining here because he did it in record time and the workmanship was excellent, very nice guy.
I got a shot just before sunset, at about 30 yards. The bullet broke both shoulders. Amazingly he stood up on his hind legs facing away from me. I then put another one on him (texas heart shot) and he was dead. The second bullet was recovered intact from the base of the skull. They were premium solids.
