I picked up a used 84M recently with the 2 position safety. It does not lock the bolt.
I called Kimber customer service, gave thenm the serial number and they told me the day, month & year it was made. Also told me that it had 6x48 base screws instaed of the newer 8x40.
I ordered the bases straight from them.
As for the rifle, it is accurate with a great trigger and functions perfectly. Go ahead, it's only money.
