I did this w/ a Savage 110 270 WCF to 338-06 A-Square and I'm a mechanical MORON who can change oil and, if everything is perfectly ok, brakes (but just barely).

If I can do it, anybody can.

The shank diameter and threads are identical between the Savage 10 and the Marlin. In addition to the barrel you'll need a nut wrench ($23):

Shoot the heck out of whatever you get the rifle chambered to originally and buy those components peice-meal, and then at some point you'll be ready for something more along the lines of what you'd wanted all along.
