If you will accept that the 7mm-08 is a ballistic twin of the old 7mm Mauser: the 7mm Mauser was used to take virtually anything that walked the African continent including elephant. Basically, the argument is that a 7mm-08 is easy to hit with while the 478.5 Nuclear Magnum and similar rounds are easier to kill with but harder to hit with because the rifle can inflict fatal injury at both ends. Enjoy the 7mm-08. I own three of them.
At extreme ranges, the 7mm-08 actually hits a bit harder than its parent .308 Win. and the .308 is another round that has been used to kill everything.
