I guess I'm super lucky. I packed two rifles for years worrying about breakage that never happened. Then I started just taking a back up scope sighted in for my rifle but have never needed that neither. I still do that if I'm traveling out of town to hunt.
In fact, even on hunts with several guys, I can't recall a single rifle/scope failure.
A couple of "C" events taught me to carry a bore snake in my pocket and put tape over my muzzle.
