I found this information as well on the Mountain Rifle. This is not my info, so I cant vouch for it but seems all good info. Hope this helps as well. By pouring over old Remington catalogs I think I may have solved the mystery of your rifle. Remington didn�t offer (catalog) a stainless-steel M700 until 1992. In 1992 the very first M700 in stainless was called the Model 700 Stainless Synthetic. That rifle chambered .270 Winchester featured a blind magazine and a 24-inch barrel. Also in 1993 Remington introduced what it called the Model 700 Mountain Rifle Stainless Synthetic. It featured a blind magazine and a slimmed-down mountain profile 22-inch barrel. If the barrel on your rifle is 24 inches in length and of a standard sporting contour you would appear to have a 1992 Remington Model 700 Stainless Synthetic. But if your rifle has a 22-inch barrel with a slimmed down mountain profile, you then have a 1993 Remington Model 700 Mountain Rifle Stainless Synthetic.
