Well, for starters we aren't talking about building a M24 sniper system here. He wants to take a factory pulled .243 barrel (1st clue he wants to do this on the cheap) and screw it on a long action and go shooting. There is quite a bit of difference in a M24 sniper rifle and a "Hey, will this work" scenario. You can make anything work if you throw enough money/work into it. My guess would be that's not what he has in mind, hence my 1st reply. At a bare minimum a new follower and magazine block would be highly recommended. You don't think the army just takes a Remington 700 long action, screws a .308 barrel on it and calls it good to go do you? laugh HA! I didn't think so either.
