From doing some number crunching with the Handloaders recoil calculator, there doesn't appear to be much difference in recoil between the 7mm-08 and the 308win.
For lower recoiling caliber, it appears the 257roberts and 260rem would be the better option.
However, I see that she already has a 257rob and that you decided on a 270win.
