+1... It's an "economy version" 336. I inherited an almost unfired 30AS from an uncle 9 yrs. ago and I love it. It has the Birch (I think) stock with no checkering and I had to install my own studs for a sling and the front & rear sights look like they came off an economy model rimfire. But the receiver was already drilled & tapped so now it has a Leupold VX-I 1-4x 20mm scope on it. Shoots as good as any 336 I've ever seen. This year I worked up a nice 30-30 handload with the Hornady Flex-Tip 160 gr. bullets and I'm starting to like 30-30's even more now for a woods gun. 200 bucks for a nice 30AS sounds good except I don't have much faith in Simmons scopes but that can always be remedied later.
