Top gunsmiths will charge you $2000-3500 strictly for labor, you supply and pay seperateley for all components and that does not include any embellishments strictly 100% field performance dependable working gun. When you spend $700 on a used crf Winchester with paper works fees then add all components desired you will spend $5k easy and $6500 more like it. Quality gunsmiths will take two to three years to finish and some five years.
That's not really true. I've had Mark Penrod build a couple of rifles for me from components I supplied and it didn't cost anything like that, and he had both of them back within 5 months. We're not talking checkered bolt knobs, sculpted scope bases, or fancy bolt releases. He's certainly capable of all that but mine are just no-nonsense tuned up M70's with Lilja and Kreiger barrels and mcmillan stocks. They're just functionally perfect working rifles and unless you want him to do all the fancy aesthetic stuff he's pretty reasonably priced.
