You can't be making a mistake with either a 1.75-6 or 2.5-8x. Personally I think a 6x is plenty of magnification for even long range shooting with a .375. I've shot coyotes at 500 yd with a straight 6x and most of my .375 shooting is at bigger game than that. Shot a few coyotes with them though. I have a 1.75x6 on my .416 Rigby with a No. 4 reticle. It is just right, I really like the no. 4, very bold with a smaller crosshair for precision.
