Hide on an animal stretches a lot better to resist an exit than it does an entrance, cause it's pushing against air to exit instead of ribs and flesh to enter. I've seen 180 grain bullets out of a 300 magnum that wouldn't push through a moose, even at fairly close range, and moose aren't steel plated.
