I recently saw a Soundstage concert on PBS of her with Whatsername Staples (of the Staples Singers). I was blown away! This 18-year old British girl, and white, was belting out Blues and R&B so powerfully that I had to look away from the Campfire to make sure she was still young & white!
I think that if she'd power-smoke a pack of cigarettes just before a concert she'd be able to sing Janis' catalogue without missing a beat (or screech).
It prompted me to get some stuff off ITunes. A bit disappointing, more Pop and with less energy, but I think "Right to Be Wrong" is a gem. A little weak in the lyrics but I've found it wise to ignore most lyrics anyway. As I write this, I'm hearing the song for the 98th time in the ten days I've had it.
She shows promise.
