My "most expensive" scope is an older Leupold 3.5-10X40 VariXIII, Precision Rifleman, a sort of poor man's tactical. It has worked fine on my Remington 700 VSFS, .308. Sold the rifle, and kept the scope. It sits in a box at present. Might put in a set of spare rings and play with it later this year. If I do, it will go on either my custom .280 Ruger, or, most likely my custom '06 Mauser.
Been a member of a gun club with a 1000 yd. range, as well as an 800 yd. tactical range for a several years now. Never seem to get out there and shoot anything longer than 300 yds.
Need to do that this year.
It's not that I can't afford an expensive scope. I just haven't found any that offered much. Add a set of adjustment knobs and an appropriate reticle, and the better hunting scopes work fine for anything I've ever done.
Had a fancy 6.5-20X40AO for a few years. Realized that anything over 10-12X just wasn't useful in the field.
So, until I find a need, I'm good where I am. E
