So IMHO you are spot on , save for the responsibility was on Trayvon's shoulders alone. ASSUMING the parents did all they could, and thats not a given.

It happened to my boy, it took about a year for him to realize all the things I taught him were true and he knew the road he had to take to get back home.

I went from being completely disgusted by him to being damn proud of the way he turned out. His advantage was he had a road map to be able to find his way back, I'll lay money on the table that Trayvon had no map taught to him but the fact remains that all this lays directly on Trayvons shoulders as he made the decisions that got him dead He knew what he was doing was wrong. Gangsta's and Gangsta wannabe's know when they be breakin' da law.
