Cut for balance on the rifle. I have, and like, a couple of .243's at 22" R.
That's what I'd do. I'd rather have a bit of weight forward actually, they hang better and are easier to stay lined up.
My Sako L579 is 23" and perfect for me.
Why would you want to shorten it anyway?
