Jeez, make an offhanded comparison that isn't even wrong... The point being a sufficiently small charge of any fast burning nitro powder in a (relatively) large case can be made to work.

For composition of blank powder see Hatcher's Notebook, it is unmodified nitrocellulose, essentially gun cotton. That does no mean loose fiber physical form. I have used unmodified nitrocellulose evaluating its ignition and burning properties, it ignites very easily but burns inefficiently at low pressure. That's what I wanted to know. Given the high pressure exponent there was no information to be gained by going past that very small amount. That is the area where a fast powder like Titewad performs well. At lower pressures good ignition can be a problem. You may have missed it, the 8x57 velocity variation did not settle down until it reached a moderate charge of Titewad, an indicator of poor ignition. New manufacture in bulk is unavailable and in any event might be classified as an explosive. E C Blank for example was used as a hand grenade filler.
