You should be fine, I've bought from non-rated sellers before. I just make it a point to talk to them on the phone personally, and have an address that matches their name on some internet lookup site. Most scammers aren't going to use gunbroker, which requires a credit card to verify user, and aren't going to scam for just a $300 firearm.
