Thanks for all the replys. One thing I realized is there is a big difference between 2 and 3 pounds. I thought my '06 trigger was pretty heavy, and I measured it last night and it is 3. Came that way from the factory in 1986.

Mine are all a tad over 2lb, except my Kimber Montana in .260. I dialed that one down to about 1.75lb because the rifle itself is so frigging light. Anything to help keep it on target.

A friend of mine has a pet 300wby. He was having trouble flinching with it, so he had their custom shop install a set trigger that goes off at something like 2oz. Now he no longer has time to flinch. Works for him!

36 to 40 ounces.

In addition to the usual slamming the bolt closed, I like to drop the rifle onto its recoil pad from about 2 feet high.
My Timney triggers will take this at about 1.5 lb. but the M70 triggers need much more to pass this test.

My Tikka WTHunter out of the box 5 years ago still has the same 3lb 2oz trigger with zero creep it had when I opened the box. The used Winnie M70 Classic 300 WMg SS/syn I picked up this spring had a 5lb + trigger with lots of creep and gravel in it until my 'smith worked it over to the same 3lbs zero creep setting I like. My CZ 9.3 American is still set at the close to 3lb 12oz and about 1.75 on the set as I remember it when it was new last year...but I haven't spent much time with it yet....with all trigger pulls measured on a digital scale.

The only one I have checked is the Freedom Arms .454. It is 18 ounces. The hunting rifles are a little heavier. The varmint rifle is a little lighter.

IMHO, 2# is too light UNLESS it's a rifle used on a rest in a P dog town.. Hunting rifles carried in the field should be no less than 3#.. Closer to 4# if cold weather necessitates gloves.

Safety is everything.

I drop mine from 20 feet. If it doesn't go off then I throw it out the back of the pickup going 60 mph. If it still doesn't go off I hit it with a sledge hammer a few times. If it still doesn't go off, then the trigger might need adjusting. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

All of mine are set a 3lbs per my Lyman electronic trigger pull gauge. I don't like to go lighter than that for hunting in the cold.

I think if I were to hunt in warmer climates I might like them lighter. Usually I use my varmint guns in the winter too while coyote calling, and I wear a brown cotton glove because it covers my skin, but is thin enough to feel the trigger. It also makes my hands cold, that is why I was thinking of increasing the weight.

I can put up with a heavier trigger if it breaks like glass, but I don't like them over 3lbs, and I like some a lot lighter like on varmint rifles, as others have stated.

One thing that makes a lot of difference to me on how light I want a trigger is how wide the trigger is. I find that I like skinny triggers a lot lighter than wide ones. A wider trigger feels noticeably lighter to me, even when the scale says it may be set the same or even a little heavier than a skinny one.

I am getting used to the dramatic curve in my Kimber trigger. It is unique in my experience, and I am liking it pretty fine.
