The Sims-Dudley gun would have been an outstanding addition to the movie.

Was the cannon used by the reenactors an 1885 Hotchkiss?

Were the Gatling guns period pieces or rebuilds?

I do not know. I wasn't on the set of that one. Had lots of friends who were but I dunno. Being John Milius was involved they have ways of finding lots of stuff out there. I imagine it was the real thing.
The guy who was in charge of the Reenactors also had a vast network of resources. All types cavalry, artillery, infantry, etc. He was a great guy! He died of a massive heart attack after one of the big productions. Gods and Generals Mebbe??? Can't remember. He was a heck of a guy!!!
He had two scenes in flicks. One was he was the officer that brought the msg to Gene Hackman at the dance in Geronimo and he was the army officer who started the land rush in "Far And Away".

John Milius did some fine cinematic work. I really like his films.

Fitzhugh Lee and Thomas Rosser. Matthew Butler for extra credit.

Another exam question:

Who was the highest ranking US civilian authority in Cuba at the outbreak of war with Spain in the spring of 1898?

And here's an easy Boxer Rebellion trivia question;

What two US Marines, 1 officer, 1 enlisted, received their first Medal of Honors
( both received two in their careers) during the Boxer rebellion?

The Marine Corps history was an easy one. The mining engineer had me stumped until I thought that whomever it was had to have gone on to become much more famous later, and I couldn't recall any generals with such a background so I went politicians. Hoover was easy after that.
