For sale: Custom stock for a left hand, long action Model 70 (.30-06, .270, .300 WM etc.) with factory two piece bottom metal. The barrel channel was for a Brux #2 contour but it will fit a standard Model 70 sporter barrel. The Brux is a bit bigger in the shank so a factory barrel would have a little gap around that but not much. The action was glass bedded in the stock. Stock is in excellent condition. There are a couple of very tiny compression dents that I can't get to show in the pics but otherwise there are no scratches or dings that I can find. This came from a nice piece of quarter sawn walnut, I couldn't tell you the species. Jack Belk picked out the blank for me about 16 years ago (thank goodness he didn't build it or I still wouldn't have it back). It has a good straight grain through the forend dropping down nicely through the grip, going into some very pretty figure in the butt with some fiddleback in it as shown in the pic. I call it "chocolate fudge" since to me it has a very dark brown chocolate appearance. The grip cap and forend are genuine ebony wood, no plastic here. Finish is 20 coats of Tru-Oil and the recoil pad is a 1/2" Pachmayr Decelerator. The checkering was done by hand with a double ribbon under the forend and an interesting border, the grip is a fairly standard panel. It was patterned from a Remington 700 BDL stock and matches that shape in the grip and cheekpiece. The one thing I have to mention is that the stock is "big" - I don't know any other way to describe it. LOP is 13 1/2" but it feels fat in the grip. I asked the stockmaker to make it slender but he left a good bit of wood in it. Not that it is oversized and maybe someone with bigger hands would think it is just fine, but I wanted to mention this. Price is $275 shipped. Money order or certified funds only. No trades. I'll be happy to answer any questions but first definite "I'll take it" gets it. As always, I offer a three day inspection.
