Cool that you guys could get some shooting in. We had a busy weekend with schedule changes but it ended up being pretty dang fun.

Friday we ran kids around. Saturday we worked, I got the topper installed on my truck, and we did a run to my parents cabin to watch some fireworks. April's BIL has a piece of land by my parents cabin so we towed the wheeler up there and camped with them for a night too. Sunday we spent chasing all over Douglass Co, WI looking for deer sign and stand sites. I think it was productive.

Me and the boys are going be hunting in WI this season after the MN winds down. I'm getting pretty excited.

Sounds like a good weekend Tom. I got the .243, the .44, and the slug gun all dialed in. I'll have enough ammo for the .44, but I'll be making a run to Fleet Farm for some .243 and 20 gauge slugs. The slug gun literally cut the cross out of the bullseye on the last shot at 100 yards. Sadly, I left the .300 and the '06 in the cabinet. All most felt like I was cheating on them. Damned doctors!

Jeff,
There's no way that slug gun kicks less than the .300. I say use it.

Hi guys, I have the first camp photo update in a very long time.

Our weekend was slightly delayed (I'll explain at the end of the post) but we got things together on Saturday.

There was a lot of weed and brush cutting done, branch trimming, downed trees cleaned up, some new deer stand spots were established... The deer pole which had been out of service due to a downed tree a couple of years ago was relocated. Lots of good work was done.

Here's a few photos of the boys building deer stand floors. These were for Nathan and Justin.

I wish I had taken photos of the stand locations. the boys really picked some hard core locations.

Here are a couple of the girls cutting one of the many trouble branches, they did this one the hard way, hand saws.

Today being the day after Labor day, is our first day of the new school year.

First day of the sixth grade for Joey, First day of Nathan's senior year!

So, that was kind of fun.

Ok, now for my sad explanation for our weekend delay.

Pam's father has had some health issues. He has struggled with respiratory issues for years now. Things are becoming further complicated in that respect. Late last week we received word that he was also diagnosed with cancer.

Many appointments are scheduled for this week. We are hoping and praying for the most favorable assessment possible. We traveled down to visit as soon as we got the news. Spent some time visiting at Pam's home place late last week, then decided to continue on with as much of our weekend plans as we could, in the best spirits manageable.

It did turn out to be a fun weekend.

I do ask for your best wishes and prayers for Pam's father. I'm certain she will appreciate it very much.

A bit of cheerful news is that our old basset hound Lucy (14 yrs old) who had recently suffered what we believe was a stroke... She had lost the use of her back legs. She had been dragging herself around with her front legs, it looked terrible and we were putting off the call for the vet to come out to put her to sleep.

Well, Lucy has started using her back legs again! She's walking! She's also got that dog smile going pretty much non stop. She's wobbly, and sometimes her back end goes out to one side. But she is showing clear improvement.

Funny how your dang dog know when you need something good in your life and delivers. They generally don't disappoint!

I ant believe that joey is in 6h grade. I met that little fire cracker when he was 3. He looks the same, just taller. Lol

It's a 20 gauge shooting saboted slugs through a ported barrel with a good recoil pad on it. It's definitely softer that the 300.

prayers to you and yours dave! i've found in the last 7 months that life only gets harder as your parents age and the more you have to do for them. As they say they once took care of you and gave you everything, that comes around and now its kids turn as well to take care of the parents more. Remember life is too short so you need to make the most of it and deal with it as it comes. Glad to hear Lucy is coming around too. Critters seem to know all to well when they are needed! Take care guys!
