I had the opportunity of examing an 1899 rifle on the weekend that had a Watson front globe sight. On the sight it stated "Watson, Niagara Falls, Canada, Sept 06". This may help solve the mystery of who Watson, where and when he produced sights. Any other Watson sights out there with dates etc. BillR

Bill, wasn't there a Watson sight on an early F that was torn apart and put on Ebay last year?
Who won that auction?

I bought the pair of Watson sights off ebay a few months back that came out of Canada. Got the tang peep and globe front. No dates on them, just stamped Watson. Put them on Grandpa Watson's 1899 B and shot some 3" groups at 100 yards with them. Had like 4 of 10 shots in the bull.
The research I did said there was an English company that made the sights for a while but they were mostly an optics manufacturer. Niagara Falls may put a different spin on it.
Since I'm a Watson, I'm very interested in anything anyone digs up!

I found an article on them, I gonna get it for $6 U.S. and I'll post the info for ya's.
Mike, thats who got it, I knew it was one of us. It was on a 99F that Woollzee tore down, I really don't like that crap. I can see a beater or a rat but not a good looking functional rifle.

Just found it tonight, here's the site if any of you wanna order it to. I'm also getting the one on the Stevens optics. They're used to be an article on the Montreal Home Guard here but I couldn't find it this time, it ws there about 6 months ago when I visited the site before. Bill, this place is in Canada so it wouldn't be a large amount for shipping. I also see theres a book on RCMP small arms, maybe they've got something on these MP marked Savages. Mike, check out Vol 37, no. 3. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> http://www.manatarmsbooks.com/mrsinventory.html

I have a standard looking front sight and a large tang sight aperture both stamped Watson. In this region (Ontario) Watson sights aren't rare but then this is close to Niagara Falls if this turns out to be his home base. BillR

What would it take to talk you out of that aperture? I have none at all.

Watson aperture is 1 inch in diameter, marked "WATSON REG'D 4", it is the same thread as a Lyman/Parker Hale/Williams. The face of the disk is not flat like most but is conical. This aperture looks really nice on my Parker Hale tang sight that sits atop my 99E 303 Savage but I also have a Parker Hale aperture disk with an adjustable aperture which is a neat piece too! BillR
