What length barrel do you prefer 20" or 22"?
I am in the market to get a 7-08 and I am trying to decide which barrel length is the optimum?
Thanks.

I have very little experience shooting 140's. My Montana shoots 120x's and 120 vmax's to nearly the same POI and it's a convienient situation.
Both bullets have performed well on deer, and come to think of it, a bear or two....
At Brother Bill's wedding, lotsa folks were hitting 12"x12" targets at 350yds from our deck with our Montanas. Some of them were folks without a lot of trigger time, and the 7-08s were a hit among the crowd.

Have often after the fact literally sat down, rolled the rifle over in my hands, trying to figure out just how the [bleep] it routinely/reliably do what it do.
Shrug shoulders, punch tag and start butchering..............

Have had 'em from 14" XP-100 to 24" and none of 'em never not worked.
Can't see going over 22".....................

Brother Bill summed it up nicely, with a distant Bear, when after piledriving same less an aftershock wiggle via non-CNS poke...he said simply: "HOLY [bleep]".
I concur.....................

Funny thing, that was via Vmax....and I recall a few folks here saying those aren't even deer bullets....
And the range in question was a fair piece further than the 300yd limit mentioned here a couple times....

Interestingly, my Montana 300wsm does the same with 168x's and 168 Amax's...though it wasn't a surprise, and was actually the intent.
I leave Tuesday for 4 weeks of blacktail sport. Hope to have a few more pics like that one....

The boys at work have been telling me about shooting afar, tackle selection and the like. I left them all to stew on 2 words, after the Hunt unfolds and the next R&R is over.
That word is "toldja so" and it'll be some very good bidness for Cabela's,Midway,McMillan,PacNor and a certain 'Smith.
It'll be funny,for a very long time....................

At last count, I believe there are 6 slopers and two Campfire members headed for Paradise for the rut festivities. Fortunately, they're not all coming at the same time.
I suspect there will be some pizzed off wives, post-hunt. That, due to heavy Xmas expenditure for new gear.
Them boys are gonna need to re-outfit......I've been there....grin.

I was rubbing in the forthcoming expenditures, but it was falling on deaf ears...just easier to hand someone a rifle, after they've shot their's.
LVSF will go in the box and I'll call The Pimp,to see if he has something he needs built too, prior to poking it enroute.....................
