Boy do I know that experience. I didn't even get a shot off when I first started hunting because there was not even a tree branch on which to hold the rifle. What was disgusting was seeing how close the deer was when it disappeared into the woods. It slowly walked from about 25 yards where it got up to about 45 yards across a complete clearing beforing entering the woods. After that I practiced off hand.
I practice by going jackrabbit hunting.

Hammerdown,

Thank you. Over the years every once in awhile I take a critical look and think the same thing.

Years after that referenced hunt I started hunting jackrabbits. This year I plan to do it differently by setting up on a high place with some big eyes and learn to shoot long range in the wind.

I just take my rifle, pocket some ammo and go walk/hike for about an hour +/-. Go in the mornings as it's cooler and I see more rabbits. Actually hit one last Saturday at about 225-250 yds. I was SHOCKED! smile
