What we need is a ban on mags over 10 rounds, the AR-type rifle and its clones, a voluntary buy back on those in circulation, tightened licensing requirements, and increased mental health services.

Will this happen? Sadly I don't know. The gun lobby is patient and well funded by an industry reliant on assault rifle/concealed carry sales, and from a small segment of the populace with a lot of anger, fear, and prejudice. But I'm hopeful that as with tobacco, the weight of evidence and reason will win the day and we will take steps to limit the possibility of this tragedy happening in the future.

I will say this, I quit the NRA several years ago when it became nothing more than the fear-mongering, paranoia peddling marketing wing of the gun industry, and I will never go back.

THIS...type of logic reminded me of THIS...for some odd reason....

Maybe you should focus on the pharmaceutical industry who is behind all of these nutjobs who are on mind-altering chemicals (Xanax/Ritalin/etc.) and freak out when they quit or alter their dosage. The big pharma companies buy massive advertising on television, so that prevents the MSM from investigating their paying clients. They send nubile young lobbyists to Washington D.C. with suitcases full of cash and hand that schitt out like candy at a parade, so Congress sure isn't going to investigate why Little Johnny went nuts with a bag of guns.

To blame "guns!!" and some mythical gun lobby is intellectually dishonest, especially on this forum. Maybe Democrat Underground is a better environment for your anti-gun screed.

Eric308, perhaps you have thought like I have, that the President actually meant to imply that we have "too much freedom" in this country. Perhaps what we need are more controls on what we see and say. Perhaps we need to 'nationalize' our thinking just a bit. Certainly an argument could be made for having an official 'thought guidance' venue of a more positive nature than some of the stuff we have, an official 'national church' for example. Perhaps we do have too much freedom?

Yes, I have seen plenty of 'nuts' at a local gun range. Generally they are pup-popping away with the likes of AR clones, Mossberg 500-types, Tikka clones: (cheap Remingtons, Marlins, Savages, Rugers), and 10-22s. But while they are obnoxious, I don't believe they are a significant risk to society. I actually get a lot more uncomfortable when the windows on my car start rattling because some idiots pull up next to me hatin' on everything and everyone, or I pass by the theatre where certain films are being featured, or I walk into a 'Game Stop' or other venue which promotes the obsession with violence. Perhaps we do have too much freedom?

I don't totally agree with the video game angle

IMO it has as much to do with lack of parenting as anything

Hell I played "violent" video games as a youngster all the way up through my early twenties

They were entertaining but ive never fekt rhe urge to go on a killing spree, I was raised by good parents who instilled values allnd morals,

Were you on psychotropic medications during those times?

You also say "parents", as in "two". That is another difference between you and the shooters.

I posted the below comments on another thread about the Oregon shooter.

ERIC, the useful idiot of the socialist party sounds like another pawn.

Sadly, the highly liberal culture of the public school educator is churning out 50 "Erics" for every one potential person who is willing to work hard for their goals, not blame others for their own failures, and not believe inanimate objects are capable of committing evil acts, by their own fruition.

"I have to wonder what type of meds he was on, and if he was seeing a counselor. You have to be having serious mental health issues to want to do something this evil.

Though a bit far fetched, I immediately noted the upcoming presidential election, and calls for stricter gun control.

Manchurian candidate?

The original novel was from the late 50s and essentially a pawn was used as an assassin by political powers (socialists/communists).

I am very far from a conspiracy theorist, but the timing of these things has often made me contemplate what some who wish to be in power are willing to do.

After working around diplomats/career politicians for years, I would put absolutely nothing past many of them.

They consider the average american nothing but a mouth breathing useful idiot (Proletariat)that they can manipulate in any way they see fit.

At the same time, they consider the political class aristocrats, and superior in every way.

I would put NOTHING past the current breed of socialists/marxists that are currently attempting to rule us."

There is no way Eric is real nor should anyone take the bait.

I read his post and laughed.
