...at least so far! I was debating between the Pentax and weaver. After talking to Doug, I decided to try the Pentax. I put it on my 7x57 FN commercial M98. WithMy pet load it shoots 1-1.25" consistantly. Once I got it on, the 'clicks' seem to be close to 1/4", I shot a 1.1" group at 100yds. It was dead center and about 1/2" right. It was one 3 shot group. I had to go, it was late. Last weekend I went shooting and then hunting. I shot two more groups, one right under and one right over an inch, both dead on and a little to the right. I'm working on loads in my new 280 and a 308, and this gun is taking second fiddle right now. I took it pig hunting and didn't see any pigs, but practiced on deer when it was darker than I like to shoot. It's remarcably bright, but I'm no expert. It's on my go to gun for most of my hunting and shoots a 150PT @2725. Today I tried it at 200yds, using the first ballistic crosshair (is it called a stadia?). Three shots were 1.947", 1/2" low and 2" to the right. I know 20rds or so on a light kicker, is not a great test, but i do believe I've got a keeper! capt david
"It's not how hard you hit 'em, it's where you hit 'em." The 30-06 will, with the right bullet, successfully take any game animal in North America up to 300yds.
If you are a hunter, and farther than that, get closer!

I found the following on the web and thought I would post some information on the Pentax Gameseeker mentioned. Pentax is a world leader in the development, design and distribution of superb state of the art imaging and optical systems. Their world class, easy to mount riflescopes feature waterproof construction, precision ground lenses, super-hard scratch resistant finishes, and a state of the art precision adjustment assembly. The superb construction of their scopes is built inside a waterproof housing, machined from a single tube of aircraft quality aluminum. A Pentax scope is rugged, durable and ready to deal with the most demanding outdoor conditions. They are designed, built and engineered from the ground up from advice, suggestions, and recommendations from actual hunters and shooters. Owning a Pentax riflescope means you've invested in a high performance, state of the art optic that is sure to enhance your outdoor experience.
The Pentax Gameseeker 6x42 riflescope offers all the features you would expect to find in a high end scope at a fraction of the price. Solid one piece construction, nitrogen purging, and fully multicoated optics ensure rugged reliability and a brilliant sight picture even under the harshest of conditions. The low profile of this scope offers ease of transport and maneuverability without compromising its incredible level of light transmission. This is due in part to Pentax's optical design, which employs a larger diameter internal optical stack, and enhanced further by its 1 inch diameter main-tube design. The wide field of view and ample magnification will redefine what you know about quick and accurate sight acquisition. You are sure to be impressed with the performance and durability of the Pentax 6x42 Gameseeker.

Not being a Leupold dealer (as I do not appreciate the way they treat independant dealers) I cannot comment on the comparison. I have not personally compared them and hearsay is not viable information for me to respond with

I wonder how much fuss on these boards a 6x42 Conquest set up with 4" or longer eye relief and priced about $375 would generate?

Interesting question. The 6x42 Pentax Gameseeker is, ballpark, a $99.00 scope that offers quality 1 piece construction, a lifetime no fault warranty, gas filled/waterproof and Pentax optics. It definitely has a solid place in the scope arena and is worth a look, or in this case, a strong debate Is it the finest scope made?.... No. Is it the best value in a scope of its type?.... I say yes.

Just wondering myself as I've owned several Leupold 6x42 Scopes and know what kind of Low Light resolution they have. Curious you've never looked thru a Luppy...

I wonder how much fuss on these boards a 6x42 Conquest set up with 4" or longer eye relief and priced about $375 would generate? How about one that comes in with a shade under 4" of eye relief (3.6"), is a 6x42, has one piece construction, a lifetime replacement warranty, and priced about $225? Here ya go... Sightron 6x42 A: 12.75 B: 6.18 C: 2.24 D: 2.56 E: 3.23 F: 2.99 G: 1.99 H: 1.61 I: 1.00 A: 19.8 B: .33 C: 1.32 I have tested these side-by-side Leupold 6x42s, and if they aren't an exact match, they are REALLY damned close. Close enough to justify sacrificing the gold ring for an extra $150-$200 in the pocket? Try it, and you make the call.

VA, Have you measured the eye relief? I have on some of Sightrons variables and they are way short of what they advertise. I bought a few and hoped but not quite... I don't crawl the stock and I need all the eye relief I can get to get a decent FOV. Just curious... I passed on a new 6x42 for 150 or so for this reason, that and I haven't been converted to the straight power side... Dave

Dave;
If it wasn't 3.5" to 3.6", it was VERY close. I put it in the same spot the Leupold 6x42 was on the same rifle, and did not detect one hint of difference in me crawling the stock.

Sounds like a bargain. Still made by Burris, I take it? Wish they made one in a fixed 4x---2MG

Made by Sightron, not Burris, as far as I know. Sightron is based in Youngsville, NC. Burris in Greeley, Co. I haven't found any connections, as yet, between the two companies, though if you know of any, I'd like to hear of them. BTW - they do make a 4x: Sightron SII 4x32

The Pentax Gameseeker line is completely made by Pentax, they set up their own facility. Their Pioneer, Whitetails unlimited and Lightseekers are still made for them, with Pentax optics, by Burris.

captdavid,
Have you checked to see what the stadia spacing is on the reticle? My decision on whether or not to try one out is essentially hanging on this little detail as I'll be mounting it on my 17HMR and want to see where they would fall on my trajectory chart. Hoping it will get me out to around 300yds for when I stretch the barrel out on PD's.
As long as there's still lead in the air, there's still hope!

Dave,
I'll second Sean on this one. I have a 6x42 SII on my M70 FWT Swede. Perfect scope for the rifle. Not quite as good at lowest light as my VX-III 2.5-8 BUT comes up pefectly every time. I'd buy a couple more at the 150-175 price point in a heartbeat.
The Pentax is interesting, for the buck I'll be looking at it for kick around guns.

OK, I've got a wonderful idea to put this whole thread into perspective. Who wants to test drive a Pentax Gameseeker 6x42? Come on now, don't be shy. All I ask is the person who gets it, checks it out and then posts an honest and complete review on this thread. Fair enough???? If this is of interest to anyone here contact me and I will send one out. After you check it out perhaps you will be kind enough to pass it around to other members that have an interest. That would be great. Let's get some real reviews from the membership.
